A life of a newbie Jobseeker

Just wanna share a little update about myself this past few months since its getting rusty in this blog hehe. So life has been good, but somehow has been lacking of spark I would say. Dont get me wrong, I always try to be positive about everything, including life in general, I just feel like there's something missing in it. I guess its because of my current status ( hey its nothing about being single or so ). I've had my thesis defens last month, and since then my life has been entering its new phase. I'm officially welcoming my post-graduating period with all the thrilling future dreams and the struggle to achieve them. Welcome to jobseeker world!.

For me, being a jobseeker has been exciting and nerve-wracking. Exciting as it gives you freedom to actually act to get your dream job and fight for it, but on the other hand it could also be nerve-wracking to wait for the right opportunity to come ( goshh, its even more nerve-wrackingly stressing when you missed or not eligible for the job you've been expecting ). Well, I'll take this as a part of life process and an opportunity to value patience. Earlier this month I went to Jakarta the motha fucka to attend my first ever jobfair. It was sick, the jobfair was like a Jewish holocaust camp packed with people. All of them were mostly fresh grads like me, looking for a better future. Hope that I will be the few chosen ones to make it through the first selection cut. I was on my errand as a jobseeker for 5 days in there, I was there with Jura also, and we spent most of the time as a duo combating the crazy Jakarta's traffic everyday. I was back to Jakarta again after a week, also for jobseeking purpose ( what else would I do there ). This time it was a second selection process. It went OK, and I just hope that they see me hire-able.

Aside from being a jobseeker, I spend my hella plenty of freetime reading books, watching series, reality shows, and learning how to make pompadour styled hairstyle through youtube videos ( pardon the very last thing ), basically anything that doesnt require money. I've been reading two books this past month, Titik Nol by Agustinus Wibowo, and a motivation book by Rene Suhardono, Your Journey to be Ultimate U. Those books were awesome and somehow matched my current circumstance that need some encouragement. Such inspiring books to keep you going and encouraged. I've also been watching How I met Your Mother from the first season, as I grow older I noticed how this show is getting more hilarious. I've also been obsessed with Dad where are you going, a korean reality show. It gave me so much laughter watching all the kid casts do innocent things kids would do.

So, thats it from me. I hope everything will get better for everyone of us. Oh and we're getting closer to the end of 2013. Wow, time flies like no kidding, I feel like its only yesterday I'm back from Korea in the end of 2012 and its already the end of 2013. Happy new year guys :)

Life in Korea: First Day at Keimyung Daehagyo

Life when I was in Korea was awesome and life-changing. I had so many unforgettable memories that I will keep for a lifetime. Some of them are also happened to be things that have changed me personally. In the coming posts, I'd like to share some stories I've encountered when I was an exchange student there. So without any further do, I'll recall my journey!

So everything started in the beginning of March 2012 after I made it through an exchange student selection process in my home university. I was so thankful that I was ever given this opportunity, because apparently Korea had been my major destination that I'd always want to visit. I was so lucky that I got to travel here not as a tourist but as a legitimate exchange student. It was one of the happiest moment of my life, enough said.

I went to Keimyung University in Daegu, South Korea. Daegu is located in the southern part of Korea and it is one of the biggest cities in Korea along with Seoul, Busan, and Daejeon. The first time I stepped my feet out of the airport it was still freezing. It was late winter that time and I was a little concerned if it will get colder since I haven't prepared enough winter outfits. It was my first winter experience, so although it was cold I was kinda having my moment of glory lol.

In the airport I met Minah, my first ever Korean friend who happened to be my best friend. She was my buddy, the one who suppose to assist foreign students throughout our very first weeks in Korea. I was so lucky to had her as my buddy, she was a nice girl that was also so helpful. There's this funny thing upon our first meeting in Daegu. So after we had a little introduction chat, she asked me if I want to take taxi or take public transport to get to our university dorm. I didn't know which one's the best so I let her decide. She decided to take subway because its cheaper, but seeing all my luggages, she was a little concerned about me carrying them all the way to the subway station. So we took a taxi to bring us to the nearest subway station, then continued taking subway to our dorm.

Keimyung University Main Gate ( Saw this somewhere?, It was in Boys Before Flowers Drama )

Subway station in Daegu was good and clean, it's simple and only has two subway lines which was really easy to memorize. We took the green line and heading towards Keimyungdae-yog ( Keimyung University Station ). It wasnt my first time taking subway ( I've been in Singapore MRT before ), but it was my first time taking subway in winter time, which was interesting because the seats were surprisingly very warm. After 45 minutes we arrived in Keimyungdae-yog, it was not that busy that day. We got out of the station and we could see the university main gate in front of us. I was having my relief moment when Minah said that we must walk a bit more to get to the dorm. I was like, oh okay we've already seen the university gate it means the dorm must be somewhere close. But I was wrong, we walked to dorm for another 20 minutes, which nothing like "a bit more" for me. Besides that, I was so surprised because the way to dorm was such a struggle because we had to walk pass a freaking hill. So, our dorm was located on the back of the hill and the only way to get there was by passing that hill. For the next couple of months I spent in Keimyung University, that hill had been part of my everyday life, I should pass that hill whenever I want to go outside of dorm. Back to the first day story, so finally I managed to pass that freaking hill with all my luggages. I was safely arrived in dorm feeling like a zombie. I didnt have enough sleep because of the 8 hours flight to Daegu plus the surprise hill I just passed.

Part of the Hill heading to Myungkyo Dormitory

Myungkyo Dormitory

In the afternoon, Minah was nice enough to ask me out to have lunch after I put all my luggage in my room. With a little energy left, I followed her along because I haven't had anything that day. In front of the dorm gate we met another buddy with a foreign student with her. The foreign student was Anu, a girl from Finland who later happened to be one of my best friends during my exchange time. So, four of us then decided to have lunch together. It was my first lunch in Korea and I remember we were having tteokpoki ( spicy korean rice cake ), fried rice, kimchi, and some soup. It was the first day in Korea and it's already challenging with all the hills and the experience that waited me for the next coming months.

Changing Seasons

Recently season has been changing, rain has started pouring. The college life of mine has also been concluding as I'm finishing up my graduating preparation. Life waits me up ahead.
It scares me somehow, but apparently there's nothing to do but standing tall and believing true to your self. Our fear might get bigger but having people around that always be so positive and supportive ease every encountering worries.

I strongly believe life would be fair for everyone that work hard pushing their limits and always believe in their dreams. Nothing worthy comes easy, that explains everything. Every drop of tears and sweats would be paid off in the end. I might not be the most positive person on earth, I just don't want to find myself regretting in the future. I will stick this 5 cm on my forehead. Today, 22 years old Bada declare to himself and to the rest of the world that he would not get bent to failures, he would always find a way to achieve his dreams, he would never underestimate anyone around him, and he always believe that if he had gave his best, God will do the rest.

I dedicate this posting for myself and my friends that have been graduating and started chasing their dreams :). Our journey have just begun, fighting!

I MISS YOU between guys

Yesterday one of my good korean friend texted me in Kakaotalk. He said he's been missing me so bad. And after we were texting for a while, I said that I have to sleep because I have 7 o'clock class for the next day. Then he concluded with saying, "Love you, bye bye". Well some of you might think negatively when you see something like this. But for me it's rather a normal thing. Haha, no no, not that, dont get me wrong, I dont wanna say that I am gay, I want to say that in Korean society, expressing "I miss you" and "I love you" between guys doesnt mean that they're gay. Such an interesting culture difference that at first I also find a little bit creepy.

Then if it's not a problem then what does it mean when a guy say something like that to you ( if you're also a guy ). It means that you two are good friends and he really likes you ( not in the gay way ). In korean society, there's a thing called "정" Jeong or can be translated roughly as "love". But its not like the love we might perceive as affection between guy and girl. I dont know how this "jeong" thing originated and literally means, but what I heard from many korean I got the point of what jeong means in general. So, jeong is a kind of feeling of togetherness, brotherhood, affection, attachment, sharing, and caring. So, jeong is kind of hard to explain, because it's a complex feeling. Jeong is also tightly related with korean culture which shapes the character of the people in general. To make more sense I will give few example of jeong in korean society I've witnessed myself. First, korean shares their food. You might find that if you go out with your friends to eat, your friends would offer you their food. Sometimes, they will feed you ( menyuapi ) with their own hands. That happens between same sex too, so dont freak out if that happens to you, they just wanna express that they like you if that make sense. Second, saying "I miss you" or even "I love you" to the same sex. I'm not sure about this but saying "I love you" to the same sex is way easier than saying such thing to opposite sex, cause it could mean you wanna date her haha. Third, korean guys really like to do "skinships" when they feel comfortable around particular people. What I mean by skinships is like holding hands and other frienly body contacts. I experienced all these stuff myself, and kinda feel uncomfortable and even tried to resist it at first. But once I know how it's just part of the culture and the way they express their affection to people it's all fine.

In my opinion jeong culture has made korean culture and its society unique in its own way. Furthermore, how korean society is influenced by jeong also makes stronger bond and relationship between friends. I see korean society is a communal one, the people likes to be gathered in groups of people they comfortable with, not like the western one which embrace individuality. Maybe jeong could be one reason behind this too. So, if you ever visit korea in the future and would witness or experience something like these, dont freak out :). Cheers!

Bada's Playlist According to Jūra

Bada... this kind of creature really likes bitchy songs. So, I guess these songs represents him as well. Bada is a huge fan of Hallyu Wave. Just like Mare. But they have different fave idols, Bada really adores HyunA, Girls' Generation, and Sistar's Bora. While Mare is a Bigbang and 2NE1's whoreshiper.

Some Life Updates

My Messy Homescreen for the past days

Hi, first of all I just wanna let you all know that I'm still alive. Yep, its Bada here. It's April the 1st, 16:10 pm, and it's thundery outside. I've been home these past days. Practically I was home the entire weekend and so is today. Today is Monday anyway, but since the class is canceled, I got to see myself being home for another day. Yaay, or Boo haha. Last weekend was a long weekend because last Friday was a holiday. I supposed to be sad for just being home the entire weekend, but in fact I'm not :).

Let me call this past weekend and today as productive days, sort of. I have been struggling to finish the first chapter of my thesis and I'm successfully finished it today. Yay, thanks to the long weekend. Im so happy that at last I could conquer myself, defeated my lazy procrastinating nature lol. So I managed to finish the first chapter in 14 pages and Im planning to meet my advisor this coming Wednesday to ask for her thoughts, finger crossed. I know its still the beginning of the so called "thesis sojourn" but successfully managed to finish the first chapter gives you more motivation for the next chapters. Hopefully this spirit and motivation last long, another crossed finger.

Last week I did many stuff other than just going to classes. I got my TOEFL Score, I submitted 2 resumes to apply for scholarships, I played scrabble in French and I watched The Wizard of OZ. Nothing really special or super exciting, but hey, ordinary life is something thats gonna be missed someday, when you are there freaking out with piles of work on your desk and a screaming boss on your head, you're gonna beg for these kind of ordinary easy breezy days, arent you!. Lol lets get back to the track. So, my TOEFL score was quite a satisfactory, I got more than what I expected. It was my third attempts of taking the test and Im so happy it turned out good. Well, so many people are good in english these days, so with a good TOEFL at least you are still on the game. One of my professor, Mr. Mohtar told us that being able to speak english well is not something you should proud of thought, cause its a mandatory, sniff sniff. But, Im still happy with my TOEFL result.

Last week I also submitted 2 applications for scholarship. Dont judge me to be a greedy or opportunist type of bitch. Promise you Im not. You know, I am a student without any job and my parents still fully supported me financially, but I need a a lot of money so that I can travel more. You know, Im kinda obsessed with travelling. It would be so nice if you could spend your own money for travelling, without burdening your parents. So, travelling might be the biggest motivation for me to apply for the scholarships. I know that sounds lame. But better than not trying :). You'll never know your luck if you never test them. Fingger crossed again.

Last Thursday I played scrabble in my French class and it was so much fun. That day, there's only 4 of us coming to the class, so our teacher asked whether we want to study, watch movie, or play games. Dont ask, we shouted at her right away, "GAME, Madaaaam!", and we ended up playing scrabble for 2 hours. I called playing scrabble part of learning thought, because I got to learn some new vocabularies. Well another finger cross for my french advancement :). I really want to be good in French. As for right now, I've been enjoying learning the language, and its sort of growing on me already. I used to be pessimistic about learning French, cause you know, in which language does a table has gender?, and in which language do you have to struggle to even read a word. Well, you can only find them in French. Now I started to enjoy it more and more :).

Last week I also watched The Wizard of OZ with Mare. The movie was kinda unpredictable. It's nothing like what I expected from seeing the poster. I dont wanna give you some kind of spoiler but this movie is hilarious ( never crossed in my mind that there's a china town in magical world guys lol ). Before I give you further spoiler, you better watch your own. In the beginning of the movie it was all black and white, and the aspect ratio of the screen wasnt ordinary, the screen was kinda small. But it gets bigger after a while as the main character jumped into the "magic world". I got to see Rahel Weisz also since the last time I saw her on The Mummy Returns. Theres also Mila Kunis which happened to be an ugly witch by the end of the movie. Anyway, overal this movie is entertaining, dont expect more, cause I hate the ending.

For addiction and favorites this week. Hehe. I've been loving to listen to these music. The first one is Monodrama by Huh Gak feat. Yoo Seung Woo. Yoo Seung Woo was a former KPOP star contestant I guess, if Im not mistaken with Super Star K ( correct me if Im wrong ). Their duo is quite good, I like their voices combined. The song is about a person who regrets his past relationship I guess, cause Im not that good in Korean, but I caught several words that expressed so. The song is kinda sad but good to listen before sleep :). Last but not least, it gives me the nostalgic vibe of Korea somehow. Makes me miss Korea.

The next one is pretty peculiar ( sorry for that lol ), title of the song is Expectation by Girls Day. I've never seen girls day sporting this kind of image. In this music video they go with sexy image which is so different with their previous image. They used to be cute and sometimes too cute that they look stupid lol. The music of their new song is quite addicting. I like it cause it has something like clubby beat going on. LOL for the music video concept and dance, hmmm you should check their boob shake moves ( lol I dont even know how to name that moves, go check it out below ). Oh, one more thing that caught my attention about this music video is that one of them ( whom I dont know who she is ) looks like Hyuna somehow. Just FYI Hyuna is my guilty pleasure guys, please mind.

Ok, so that's a piece from me. Hope you all have a nice day, Byee :).

Get To Know BADA

Hi everyone, my name is Bada and this is my first post in this brand new blog. Im so excited to post in this blog because this blog was created spontaneously by 3 of us ( ya I know, we are so random ). We created this blog because we thought its gonna be fun if there are more people organizing one blog, as the content will not be monotonous and we can keep this blog posted regularly with anything we found interesting, amazing. This blog was also created to make our days as student ( not to mention our final year lol ) more productive, because sometimes we tend to just throw ourself in the corner of our room sleeping if we have nothing to do, this blog is meant to motivate ourself and keep us productive even in a fucking lazy days, cool. Well, enough raving, Im just gonna go introduce myself yay :)

So as you all know, I already mentioned my name, its BADA. That means sea or ocean in Korean. I go with this name because I love sea. I remember there was one time when Im so obsessed with a particular fictional mythical figure called Nyi Roro Kidul. That was a long story to tell, but briefly I found that this character is so cool. She lives deep beneath the South Sea ( without a gas tank ), she is uber beautiful that even the Sultan would fall for her, she is powerful that she can do some magic tricks, and other jawdropping abilities she has. Call me nuts for idolizing this figure, but frankly, I actually never intentionally idolize her, it was just coincidence. It all started from jokes I usually told to my friends about this figure, but later on it became a habit, and people started to relate me with this figure, weirdo. Other than that, I see sea as a symbol of hope and dream. Why?. Because its endless, we can dream and hope as big as we could, the possibility is also limitless, just like the sea that has no limit. So keep dreaming big guys :), you will never know in the end of the day you will find yourself living your dream. But always keep in mind that there's no ocean with no waves and storm, so keep alarmed but stay cool just like the gentle sea breeze. Third reason why my name is Bada, because I love Korea, I love the language, I love the culture, I love most things about Korea. I will tell the rest of the story of my obsession to Korea in other post, since this post is getting too long.

Back to myself, I have some interests that I've been keeping on doing for quite a long time. The first one and my ultimate interest is drawing. I love to draw ever since I know how to grip a pencil. I remember when I was younger, the wall in my house was full of my masterpiece. My mom used to get mad at me when she found me out drawing on the wall again and again, because I literally drew anything, from rainbows to giant anacondas. My interest in drawing continues up until right now but I rarely publish it to other people ( even some closest people around me might not know I can draw ), its more like a self therapy for myself and self satisfaction. Some people already told me to be bold with this skill so that I can excel on it, but I never really listened, since I was a very realistic person, I didnt think I can live with being an artist. But when I grow older and maturer, I started to realize that the best job in the world might be the thing you enjoy the most. But I keep practicing, no regrets, I still find drawing enjoyable and the most awesome thing in the world. Since I love to draw, I also love things related to arts or visual arts. I love graphic design, photography, interior design, product design, and anything about visual design.

Besides drawing and visual design, I also love to travel. Finding out some new places, getting lost, seeing new cultures are always a bliss for me. I love backpacking and I hate travelling in a tour. I hope I can have a job related to travelling, that would be super cool. My dream destinations are exotic places in South East Asia, right now Im dying to go to Angkor Watt in Cambodia, Luang Prabhang in  Laos, and Pagan in Burma. Im also dying to visit Europe, Viena, Geneva ( these two I heard a lot in the class during lecture lol ), Prague, Italy, Paris, Islamabad, and many more. But on top of those, I always ant to explore my own country, Indonesia on the first hand. This country is sooo georgeous but the government is busy dealing with other stuff so the tourism endorsement ( which is so fucking important for our income ) is left neglected. What a shame!. I hope I can make a change in the future, with the smallest effort I could do.

Moving on to the role models in my life. Thinking about this stuff, I actually dont know how to answer this since I dont really have a specific one. I dont really follow one specific person's idea or whatever ( well Nabi Muhammad is exception isnt he? ). But talking about person who has biggest influence on me, I would say they are my parents. They've been raising me with super awesome values and great efforts that I can be who I am right now. Im forever grateful to have them in my life. Thankyou mom and dad for the lessons of life you've taught me. My dad taught me how to be a gentle, responsible, honest, faithful, and how to love arts, while my mom taught me of being a hardworking, social, and a strong one. They are a perfect role models for me

The best physical feature I might have maybe are my eyes. I love how they look since they are just in perfect size for me I guess, not small not big. And I've been getting many compliments from my Korean friends about it ( well, korean is one of the most honest and mean society when it comes to judging physical features, so I chose to believe on it ).

Books. I do like to read, but Im a really picky one. The first chapter would be the one which decide whether I will continue reading that book or not. I like reading fantasy, true story, and some casual novels. My all time favorite books are The Alchemist-Paulo Coelho, Le Petit Prince-Antoine de Saint Exupery, Harry Potter-JK Rowlings ( My favorite one is "The Goblet of Fire" ), and Supernova-Dewi Lestari ( My favorite is "Pangeran, Putri, dan Bintang Jatuh" ).

Movies. The same thing with my reading taste which is more in a mainstream side, I like to watch mainstream movies too, Hollywoods yay. Hey, entertainment is all about how to be entertained and have fun, so dont think to much ( well at least this is my shallow principle lol ). But nowadays I like to watch vintage movies, I found them having a unique charm ( Ask where to find them?. Go to PrimaNet! ). I like documentary movies too, especially the ones with social issues or historical theme.

Music. Currently Im in a love hate relationship with Korean Music. I listen to KPop, their Indie Music, and their folk music. I can say their soft power is so strong that it can easily penetrate anyone, dang!. Once again being in the mainstream side, but whatever guys hahhaha. My favorite singers and groups ( labeled and indie ) are K.Will, Huh Gak, Ailee, Ali, Nell, Baek Ji Young, Davichi, Noel, Geeks, Standing Egg, Urban Zakappa, One More Chance, Busker Busker, Sistar. Besides the contemporary music, I like listening to the their folk song and music as well. I learned how to play Korean traditional instrument called Bbuk and Changgu and I love it.

Current obsessions are : Not to gain weight, speak French and Korean well, Make use of my skill so that it can earn penny.

One of my favorite thing to do is waking up early, grab my headphones, and go ride my bike to enjoy the morning breeze and beautiful early morning sky color. I hope I can do it more often :).

My fashion taste and daily outfits screams simplicity and casual. Most thing I would wear to go to campus are t-shirt and jeans. I love plaid shirts and hoodie too, they are awesome and comfortable. But the fashion statement that will always present in my everyday outfits would be a pair of hi-top sneakers, super awesome and give a little bit of "hit" to your outfit. Oh and also glasses. I love huge glasses, for some reason it fits my face quite well.

I dont wear perfume that often, only when I feel like wearing it. But my favorite scent is the scent that is not too strong and overwhelming. I like the scent in the calming, easy, musky one. Right now Im wearing the scent called Sunshine, which smells like the men moisturizer lotion from Etude House lol.

First thing I would do when I wake up in the morning is going to toilet

My weirdest habit I have is singing out loud on the street when I ride my motorbike. I often put on my earphones while riding and I often sing along loudly to the song I listen. Well since nobody will care that much because I am riding on the street. Besides singing, sometimes I ramble in english or in korean, pretending I'm having a conversation with someone. Please dont judge ;D

My wishlist rightnow are : New Smartphone and an Ultrabook

If I were an animal, I would be a dog. I can be loyal to someone once I know that person well, but I can bite some strangers that get in my way ( though I bite elegantly )

One thing I could not live without are my glasses. I had this very unpleasant experience when I travelled by myself to Jakarta and I broke my glasses. It was so tough to even see your surroundings, looking for the right terminal in the airport, and read building's name. That was one crappy experience cant be repeated in my life ever again.

Last but not least is a simple quote by me, "Life is an endless struggle between you and yourself, not between you and anyone else". So be confident and keep your chin up!. Show the world you've conquered yourself :)

So that's few things about me, I hope it gives you a better picture of myself and my personality. Have a great day :). I will try to keep posting regularly.
